*The International Art of Living Foundation has adopted 26 villages in Gujarat under the 5H program, and funds are urgently needed for this effort. One hundred schools are being built, as well as an orphanage. Homes are being constructed for homeless villagers, and the communities restored. TORONTO CHAPTER

The Toronto Chapter hosted a welcome to Mr. C. M. Bhandari, the new Consul General of India and a farewell to Mr. R. Jain, the departing Consul. In February 1998, the Chapter had organized two meetings to discuss proposed changes to the immigration policy. The Chapter is also planning for other activities through the year. Obituaries

Mr. Dashrathlal Shah, an active Gujarati community member in Toronto area, passed away, and will be sadly missed by a large number of grieving family members and friends. He contributed significantly to Heritage Language Programs. He was also involved with numerous other community projects. For more details, please click Here

The Hindu-Gujarati-Vanik community of the Toronto area suffered another major loss by the sudden death of Mr. Chandrakant Modi on March 27, 1998. Mr. Modi was the Vice-President of the current executive committee of the Vanik Samaj of Toronto. He was an executive committee member in 1988-89, the Vice President in 1989-90, and the President in 1990-91 of the Vanik Samaj of Toronto.

We, the management of this website, are deeply saddened by these deaths. We were planning to involve both of these experienced gentlemen in the development of this website. Mr. Modi was requested earlier by us to get involved. We extend our sincere condolences to both the families. Their contributions to the community will be remembered by many. We shall treasure their memories forever.

Mrs. Sabar Patel, an active Zoroastrian community member in Toronto area, passed away, and will be sadly missed by a large number of grieving family members and friends. She contributed significantly to the activities of various community projects. She was very active with India Canada Association, Toronto in 70's and 80's. 

Mr. Ramesh Mishra, an active community member in Toronto area, passed away, and will be sadly missed by a large number of grieving family members and friends. He initiated various community projects.
